The Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education held its regular January meeting on Tuesday, January 16. Information from administration was shared with the Board that included: (full administrative reports can be found on pages 2-4 at this link)
The Athletic department recently hosted the Cakes for the Cure event in conjunction with Central A&M. The event raised $8,626.69 for a local charity.
The elementary school highlighted fifth grade, which is participating in the Engineer in the Classroom program. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the Rube Goldberg Showcase in March.
The middle school highlighted 14 students who have been selected in this year's Young Artist Showcase Exhibit in Decatur. Additionally, Raelynn Burrows painting was selected for the Exhibit’s postcard and advertisement.
The high school is working with the Chamber of Commerce to host career days with seniors to connect them to local job opportunities.
In personnel action, the Board approved the resignations of Sarah Hott as an elementary teacher and Dena Tague as a bus driver. The Board approved Jenna Ward as an elementary teacher and Angela Worker as an elementary paraprofessional. Ms. Ward recently completed her student teaching at Meridian Elementary and will be taking over the second grade classroom with Mrs. Hott’s departure. Ms. Worker joins Meridian Elementary after being employed in Taylorville as a paraprofessional for several years. Additionally, the Board approved a leave of absence for Kristi Webster.
Other action items included the approval of bid specifications for a potential transportation facility on school grounds. The intended construction site is the hay field south of the baseball field on the Macon campus. The project would consist of two buildings to be able to park the buses in a garage. The project would also include a third building that would include a mechanic shop, office space, restrooms, and a driver lounge. The Board intends to consider bids at the February meeting. As part of the transportation facility, the Board approved groundwork that would be necessary before the construction of the building could begin. Lastly, the Board approved PRESS Policy 113 updates.
