The Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education held a special board meeting on Tuesday, April 30. The purpose of the meeting was to consider employment for several positions. The Board approved Sarah Major as principal at Meridian Elementary School. Mrs. Major joins Meridian from the Mt. Zion School District, where she has worked as a teacher and coach for the past 15 years. Lindsay Boggs was approved as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She has worked in the same capacity for the Springfield School District for the past 14 years.
David Graves was approved as the district Athletic Director and high school head boys basketball coach. Mr. Graves is from Texas, but has ties to Central Illinois as he attended Lincoln Christian University, graduating in 2014. Mr. Graves brings six years of athletic department leadership experience. Additionally, in seven years as a head high school boys basketball coach in Texas, Graves amassed 166 wins. Graves also served one year as the head coach at Victoria College.
Lastly, the Board approved Jess Smithers as the middle school head boys basketball coach. Smithers has been with the program as an assistant coach for the past two seasons.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Monday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the district office.
