School Board Meeting

The Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education held its regular June meeting on Monday, June 17.  Information from administration was shared with the Board that included: (full administrative reports can be found on pages 2-5 at this link)

  • The elementary school thanked all of the volunteers who helped with a very successful field day on the last day of school.  Additionally, 90 students in fourth and fifth grade were named to the honor roll for the school year.

  • The middle school ended the year with numerous activities on the last day of school including, Kona Ice, Hawk Buck Auctions, and several inflatables.

  • The high school recognized 49 students as Board Scholars for the second semester. 

  • The district is receiving a $35,000 grant from the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation to transform a computer lab at the elementary school into a STEM lab.

In personnel action, the Board accepted the resignation of middle school physical education teacher, Maggie Comerford and approved the hiring of Connor Edwards as the middle school and high school band teacher.  Mr. Edwards is a recent graduate of Millikin University and completed his student teaching this spring in Pawnee.

In other action items, the Board approved the fiscal year 2024 amended district budget.  The district ended the fiscal year with a slight surplus in all of the operating accounts.  The Board approved the first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year for Tuesday, August 19.  The annual transfer from the Dell and Evelyn Carroll Technology Trust Fund was approved in the amount of $10,035.17.

The Board also approved school fees for the 2024-2025 school year.  The only fees parents will have to pay will be a $150 driver’s education fee and a $50 per sport activity with a $150 family limit.  The Board waived all other fees (book, technology, and parking). Admission prices for athletics were approved and will remain the same.  There is also a $75 family activity pass available. 

In other business, the Board approved the renewal of property, casualty, workers compensation, and cyber insurance with Gallagher Insurance.
