In Search of the Middle Ground
The Board of Education’s perspective focuses on fairness and equity, aiming for solutions that not only address immediate concerns but also promote long-term sustainability for the district and its stakeholders.
Stakeholders consist of MFT, non-certified employees*, administrators, students, and district taxpayers.
The MFT's (70 members) financial proposal is limited exclusively to teachers and other bargaining unit members: re: Contract Proposals
The MFT (~70 members) views the district’s available funds as exclusively theirs.
The Board calculates the cost of increased teacher salary under the Federation’s proposal as $756,504.23 over 3 years. This represents an average annual increase of 6.37% per teacher and a total average increase of $10,433.58 per teacher over the three years.
The Board of Education views the district’s available funds for both MFT (~70 members) and non-certified employees* and administrators (~70 employees), totaling ~140 employees.
The Board calculates the cost of increased teacher salary under its proposal as $742,654.23 over 4 years. This represents an average annual increase of 4.78% per teacher and a total average increase of $10,238.51 per teacher over the four years.
FYI: Nearly all non-certified employees* and administrators have not received their annual raises this year. Those have been delayed due to contract negotiations.
Another Example of Differences:
The union initiated 19 areas with proposed language revisions outside of the salary schedule. To date, the Board has either accepted or reached a compromise on 11 of those proposals. The Board initiated two areas with proposed language revisions. Neither has been accepted by the union.
