Welcome back to the 2022 - 2023 school year! We are anxiously awaiting the return of students on Thursday, August 18! Doors are unlocked each morning for students to begin entering at 7:25 a.m.  The "warning" bell rings at 7:40 a.m. with the tardy bell sounding at 7:46 a.m.  Please make sure your child arrives to school with plenty of time to get supplies from his/her locker before proceeding to class. As a reminder, the Macon campus will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. on the first day of school and the Blue Mound campus will dismiss at 1:50 p.m.  A copy of your child's schedule will be provided that day in homeroom along with his/her Chromebook and agenda. If your child is a bus rider, please make sure he/she knows which bus they are to ride home.

SCHOOL PICTURES are scheduled for Monday, August 22.  All students will have their pictures taken.  If you would like to order online, visit inter-state.com/order and use code 68858PB .

If you haven't had the chance to do so, please go over the District Handbook with your child - https://www.meridianhawks.net/page/meridian-handbook .  A couple important policies should definitely be reviewed prior to the first day of school -

*CELL PHONES - MMS students are NOT permitted to have cell phones in the classroom.  During the school day, they should be stored in the hallway locker.  The 30 minute lunch period is the only exception to this. If a student has his/her cell phone out or in use during a class period, it will be kept in the office until the end of the day and a consequence will be assigned. If you need to get a message to your child during the day, please call the office and we will relay the information to your child.  The entire cell phone policy can be read here - https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1329121/CELL_PHONES__MMS_.pdf

*DRESS CODE - While we understand that students like to keep up with the latest fashions, it is important that MMS students abide by the dress code so that there are no distractions from the learning environment.  Clothing items should cover the bust, abdomen, back, shoulder, and posterior.  Tops must have 2 thick straps and must touch the top of the jeans, slacks, shorts, etc.  In additional to this, jeans/shorts are to be worn properly-around the waist and all items should be free of inappropriate/offensive writing and/or symbols.  If a student comes to school in violation of the dress code, he/she will either be asked to put on PE clothes or a change of clothes will be provided by our Student Services Coordinator. A complete list of the dress code policy can be found here - https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1328918/Dress_Code.pdf

It has been great to see so many faces in the hallways the last few weeks as students have been in to find classes, drop off supplies, and practice locker combinations.  Don't forget that the building will be open this evening from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. to accommodate parent/guardian work schedules.  The teachers won't be in the building, but students are welcome to walk around and familiarize themselves with the building and practice combinations.  All school supplies can be placed in the locker until the 1st day of school.

If you ordered PE shorts through us, we will get those distributed in PE as soon as we can.  Some of the sizes were on back order, but Wall Street will get them provided to us ASAP. In the meantime, please send a pair of shorts and Meridian (or plain) shirt for your child to change into.

Lastly, we know that lunch time is one of the most anticipated periods in a middle schooler's day, so I have attached the August lunch menu to this email.  :)  The cost for lunch is $3.05 and the cost for breakfast is $1.50.  Money can either be deposited to accounts online or can be dropped off to Mrs. Comerford in the office.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'm looking forward to a GREAT year!
