On Thursday, March 21, Meridian High School will hold its yearly Academic Program for all incoming 9th graders for the 2024-25 school year. We request that all incoming 9th graders, and at least one parent, attend this event. We will cover academic course work and requirements at the high school, graduation requirements, and course scheduling for next year's classes. This program will take place in the MHS/MMS auditorium and will begin at 6:30pm.
We look forward to seeing all of our incoming 9th graders on Thursday evening!
3rd Quarter report cards were distributed today to students. Grades can also be viewed on TeacherEase (just in case your student forgets to show you their report card!) If you have any specific grade questions, please reach out to the appropriate teacher.
The district is excited to announce that our current elementary school principal, Lori Guebert, will be changing roles next year. She will become the district's Special Education Administrator/Curriculum Director. In this role she will supervise and provide support throughout the special education department. Additionally, as Curriculum Director she will work with teachers to provide assistance and resources as the district will be taking on a comprehensive curriculum review and mapping process next school year. Mrs. Guebert will also work to align professional development for staff. As such, the district is accepting applications for the elementary school principal position.

The time of the regular March School Board meeting has been moved up one hour. The meeting will be Tuesday, March 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the district office.
This year, Meridian High School Boys' and Girls' Track & Field Team is hosting its first K-5th Grade Mini Meet on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 with registration starting at 4:00 P.M.
Pre-register before Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 for a T-Shirt ($10).

Some cross-curricular learning today. Spanish and PE classes are taking part in Zumba lessons! Thanks to Ms. Dotterweich and the PE teachers for putting this together today.
I had the opportunity to watch today's dress rehearsal for The Little Mermaid Jr by our MMS Drama students. If you have the chance, please go see this production. These young actors and actresses did outstanding along with all of those helping behind the scenes. Show times are tonight (3/1) at 7, Saturday (3/2) at 5:30 and Sunday (3/3) at 2pm.
Congratulations to our very own, Jerry Brockett, on being named the Section 16 Golden Owl Award winner. This award goes to one teacher in each section in Illinois! Proud of you, Mr. Brockett!!
FFA Week and, today, we had some special visitors from Meridian Pre-K. Students had the chance to see the baby chicks, check out the tractors Ag/FFA students drove to school and take part in other activities. Thanks to Mr Brockett and the Ag students for having these future farmers over!
Congratulations to MHS seniors, Maggie P and Hayden B who placed on last week's ACES competition. Hayden finished 3rd in Math and Maggie placed 1st in Physics across all regional divisions. Maggie earned a $1000 scholarship from Lakeland as a result of placing 1st. Great job!
Our girls season unfortunately came to an end with a 54-52 loss to Shelbyville. I cannot say enough about how proud I am of our girls, Coach Woolington and his staff. Tremendous work and effort all year.

Mrs. Rappés Integrated Science classes recently explored the effect of gradient on erosion in the desert. Great to see the hands on work our Science students do on a regular basis
Congratulations to MHS/MMS Athletic Director, Kelley Lucas, who was named the IHSA 2023-24 Girls Track and Field Official of the year. This is a tremendous honor and one that is truly deserved. Aside from serving as our AD, Mrs. Lucas devotes a great deal of her time and energy away from Meridian as an IHSA Track and Field Official. Once again, congratulations Mrs. Lucas on this honor!
We are going to establish a bus stop at the pavilion in Macon (across from the bank) for any MMS/MHS student who normally walks to school. The bus will pick up at 7:25 a.m. starting tomorrow (Friday, January 26). If your child is interested in catching a ride, please make sure they are at the stop prior to pick up. Please note- this will only be a pick up in the morning.
