Our 7th grade basketball team took home some hardware last night at the Cerro Gordo Tournament. The boys earned 1st place and are currently undefeated. They are off to a great start and are going to be fun to watch.

Tonight is PACK THE PLACE night for our Lady Hawks! Make plans to come out to support the girls' basketball program when they take on the Sangamon Valley Storm starting at 6:00 p.m. Our 8th graders will be recognized with their parents between games. Students going on this year's Washington DC trip will also have walking tacos available to purchase, a 50/50 raffle, and half court challenge during half time. Come hungry and loud to cheer on the Lady Hawks at one of their final home games of the season! Go Hawks!

Our boys kicked off their home opener last night vs AO. Both the 7th and 8th grade captured wins.
The 8th grade squad came back from being down earlier in the game. Last minute free-throws sealed the deal. Free-throws win games (and defense...lol)!
The new cheer team made their debut and kept a fantastic basketball vibe all night!

Thank you, once again, for supporting the MJHS Food Drive this year. MJHS members will deliver all donations to the Blue Mound Food Pantry on Monday.
Awesome November Raffle Fundraiser winners will continue to be announced this week. Qualifying students will receive their cash envelopes and Kona Ice treat later this week.
Looking ahead, midterm for the 2nd quarter is on Friday, November 21. Midterm reports will be provided to students with below average grades on Tuesday, November 25.

The Meridian School District would like to thank Melanie and Al Schelling with State Farm Insurance for sponsoring our October athletic attendance event drawing. We also want to thank all students (and the rest of Hawk Nation) who showed support this month.
Students who attended any Meridian home game had an opportunity to write their name on a ticket and turn it in for a chance to win at the end of October. Every game attended meant more chances.
We were able to draw 4 winners from each school. Each winner won a $25 Amazon gift card.

Hawk Nation, mark your calendars for next Friday, November 14th. You are invited to Green and White Night!
To kick off our Winter Sports Programs we will be holding an event where we recognize all of our MS/HS Boys/Girls basketball and Cheerleading programs including the youth league.
In addition to announcing the teams, spectators will get to enjoy two varsity level scrimmages . One scrimmage will be the boys' varsity squad and the other one will include a co-ed varsity scrimmage.
Also included will be a "Community Hot Shot Challenge" which will include giving visitors a chance to hit half court shots. There will be other attractions there to make this a fun event.

We had 2 new students MAX OUT on IXL for ELA this month! This means that they have earned a score of 1300 which is equivalent to the High School Senior Level! Congratulations to Natalie V. and Zada D. for working hard on ELA skills to reach this level! They will be treated to lunch this week for this huge achievement!

This week's Hawk Proud SHOUT OUT goes to Cruz P! Cruz was recognized for willingly offering to help a classmate study for an upcoming test. Not only did he do a great job in asking questions to help prepare, but he also offered the other students tips to help him remember the correct answers! Way to go, Cruz!!

Congratulations to our students who finished on the top of the IXL Leaderboards for the month of October (by becoming proficient in math and ELA skills), but an even bigger shout out to ALL of the students who met their monthly goal of gaining at least 10 points in the diagnostic arena!
We had 120 students meet the monthly goal in math! This is 70% of our student body and an increase of 23 students from just last month!
We had 114 students meet the monthly goal in ELA! This is 68% of our student body and an increase of 17 students from August/September!
