Teachers will be reviewing classroom policies with students tomorrow, but here are a few handbook "hot topics" to discuss at home before we return!
Cell phones - MMS students should keep their phones off and in their assigned lockers during the day to avoid classroom disruptions & distractions. The only exception to this is during the lunch period. If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please call the office & Mrs. Comerford will make sure to deliver it between class periods.
Dress Code - We know that fashion trends are always changing & important to kids, but students must follow the dress code & dress appropriately when on campus. Shirts must have 2 thicker straps and must touch the top of the jeans/shorts (no crop tops). Shorts should also be appropriate length and worn around the waist. Clothing items should not promote drugs/alcohol/tobacco or be inappropriately suggestive. Sunglasses, hats & the hoods of a sweatshirt should also not be worn in the building.
Gum - To keep the building & furniture nice, our building is gum free. With teacher permission, mints may be allowed, but gum is never ok! Have them spit it out before they get out of the car or on the bus.
Water Bottles - Water bottles should only have water in them and should have a lid that closes securely to avoid spills in the classroom or hallways. If they become a distraction, students will be asked to keep them in their locker for passing periods.
Chromebooks - Chromebooks are provided to our students for educational use. Students should not play games on them or use them to "chat" with friends during the day. If they become a distraction, restrictions may be implemented.
Bus Riders - If your child rides the bus, please have a discussion with them on how to act appropriately to avoid being a distraction for our drivers.
The entire district handbook can be found here - https://www.meridianhawks.net/o/meridian-school-district/page/meridian-handbook
The educational experience is a partnership, and we appreciate you discussing and enforcing these expectations at home too!
The August lunch menu for the Macon campus can be found here - https://5il.co/2tzwp Don't forget that all students will receive free breakfast & lunch this year (one per day)! If your child may want seconds, make sure to put money in their lunch account. We hope a lot of students will take advantage and benefit from this opportunity!
The 7th & 8th grade band will be performing at Busch Stadium in September. Orders are due on August 20, so it's not too late to purchase tickets. This is a great opportunity to catch a baseball game while supporting our students & Music Boosters!
GAME DAY LADY HAWKS SOFTBALL 4:30 @ MERIDIAN HIGH SCHOOL!!
Do you ever wish you could spend just one day in your child's shoes? At our upcoming MMS open house, you're in luck! Save the date and make plans to join us on Wednesday, August 28 at 6:45 p.m.

The Hawks kicked off their season this afternoon with a 14-0 WIN against the Nokomis Braves! Their HOME OPENER is scheduled for tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. against Stephen Decatur. We hope to see you in Macon to cheer on our Hawks!
We look forward to welcoming the students back for a new school year next week and remain dedicated to promoting growth and learning by developing meaningful relationships, promoting a culture of good citizenship & community involvement, encouraging curiosity & a desire for lifelong learning, maintaining high standards & expectations, and supporting college & career learning paths.
To help us carry out this vision with our students, remind your child that ATTENDANCE MATTERS and leads to success in the classroom & beyond! #wearemeridian
